Bampton is a compact village and civil parish in Mid Devon, Devon, England, sitting in the gentle folds of the Exe valley on the banks of the River Batherm. The setting is classically West Country: rolling farmland, hedgerows and stone-built houses, with the fringes of Exmoor not far to the north, making it a pleasant base for walkers and cyclists exploring the countryside.
Historically the settlement has medieval roots and there are still a church and earthwork remains that speak to that past; the built conservation area preserves a lot of traditional character. The local economy is largely agricultural with a scattering of small businesses and visitor accommodation, and community life remains lively with village events and services that keep the parish at the heart of rural Mid Devon life.
