South Tawton is a rural electoral ward in West Devon, on the western fringe of Dartmoor in Devon, England. It encompasses small villages such as South Zeal and Sticklepath, with a landscape of rolling farmland, stone-built cottages and lanes opening out onto moorland panoramas; Okehampton lies nearby, providing local services and rail links for commuters heading towards Exeter.
The area’s economy is traditionally agricultural but increasingly supported by visitors drawn to Dartmoor’s prehistoric sites and the rugged scenery, while local life revolves around parish amenities, village halls and the occasional fair or community event. There are visible historic threads too, from medieval church sites to the broader tin-working and upland farming heritage that characterises much of the national park’s edge.
