Austerfield is a small rural parish in the borough of Doncaster, in South Yorkshire, sitting amid flat, arable countryside close to the market town of Bawtry. The area is dominated by farming and smallholdings, with a quiet village character and many residents commuting to nearby towns for work.
The parish is best known for its medieval parish church, St Helen's Church, which has long-standing historic associations with William Bradford, one of the leaders of the Mayflower Pilgrims. Today Austerfield retains a tightâknit community feel, framed by lanes, stone cottages and the rhythms of agricultural life rather than major development.
