Hatfield sits on the northern fringe of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, a largely residential area with pockets of green space and former industrial land. It lies close to Stainforth and is served by Hatfield and Stainforth railway station with good road links towards the M18, making it a convenient commuter area for the wider region.
Its character has been strongly shaped by coal mining and heavy industry, most notably the Hatfield Colliery, so the built environment mixes council and private housing, local shops and social clubs. In recent years regeneration of former industrial sites and ongoing community initiatives have been important, while a resilient local identity still reflects the area’s mining heritage and close-knit neighbourhood life.
