Thorne and Moorends is a ward on the edge of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, centred on the market town of Thorne and the adjoining village of Moorends. It sits beside the remnant lowland peat of Thorne Moors and the Stainforth and Keadby Canal, with the River Don and good rail and road links shaping its role as both a local service centre and a commuter catchment for the wider metropolitan area.
The area has a distinct identity born of peat cutting, 17th‑century drainage and later industrial and agricultural trade, but today conservation and wildlife tourism - notably as part of the Humberhead Peatlands - sit alongside farming and small local businesses. Community life mixes a long‑established local population with newer commuters, and the moors, canals and towpaths give the ward an unusual blend of industrial heritage and valued natural landscape.
