Stainforth is a small civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, set on the flat, low-lying landscape of the Humberhead Levels close to the River Don and neighbouring wetlands such as Thorne Moors. Its setting of reclaimed peat and clay gives the area broad skies, drainage ditches and a strong connection to outdoor pursuits like angling and birdwatching, particularly around the local canal and moors.
Historically the community was shaped by agriculture and later by coal mining in the wider Hatfield and Stainforth area, and that industrial legacy still colours local life; today it combines light industry, local services and commuting into Doncaster. Leisure on the Stainforth and Keadby Canal, easy rail links via Hatfield and Stainforth railway station and active village institutions such as churches, clubs and pubs help maintain a distinct local identity.
