Ashley Heath is a small village in east Dorset, close to the Hampshire border and the New Forest, sitting between the larger settlements of Verwood and Ringwood. The locality still carries a heathland and pine‑wood character with easy access to walking and cycling routes, and its landscape of sandy soils and small woods gives it a pleasantly rural feel despite being within easy reach of bigger towns.
Historically the area grew up from heath and smallholdings and expanded during the 19th and 20th centuries as transport links improved. Today Ashley Heath is largely residential, with a mix of local shops and community groups and many residents commuting to nearby centres such as Bournemouth; its combination of country atmosphere and practical links makes it popular with families and outdoor enthusiasts.
