The area covers the semi-rural villages of West Moors and Three Legged Cross, a mix of heathland, farmland and suburban housing on the fringe of East Dorset. It sits alongside recreational green space such as Moors Valley Country Park and is within easy commuting distance of Ferndown, Bournemouth and Salisbury, which shapes its largely residential character.
Historically the settlements grew with the coming of rail and local small industries in the 19th and early 20th centuries, and today they retain a village feel with active community groups, sports clubs and local shops. The proximity of Moors Valley makes the area popular for walking, cycling and family days out, while the local economy is dominated by commuter households alongside small-scale retail and services.
