Sedgley is a large village and suburban area in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley, in the West Midlands of England. Perched on a ridge, it gives good views across the Black Country and was historically part of Staffordshire; that hilltop situation and its mix of housing mean it feels more like a small town than a village to many residents.
Its development was shaped by 19th‑century coal mining and limestone quarrying, leaving a landscape of former industrial sites now largely built over or reclaimed; today the local economy is mainly residential and retail with commuters travelling into nearby towns and cities. Local landmarks and focal points include the hilltop beacon (often called Beacon Hill or Sedgley Beacon) and community institutions such as St Chad's Church, while grassroots clubs, pubs and shops sustain a strong neighbourhood feel.
