The village and civil parish of Barmby Moor sits in the East Riding of Yorkshire, on the A1079 between York and Hull and close to the market town of Pocklington. It lies on the fringe of the Yorkshire Wolds with easy access to surrounding arable countryside and riverside walks along the River Derwent.
Historically the settlement grew as a roadside village on coaching and turnpike routes and still shows Victorian and earlier street patterns, centred on a church, village hall, primary school and a local pub. Today it mixes agriculture and small local services with a commuter population to York, and retains an active community life with regular events and clubs typical of rural East Riding villages.
