Hornsea is a small seaside town and civil parish on the North Sea coast in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It’s known for a long sandy beach and promenade with colourful beach huts, and sits beside Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire, popular for birdwatching, sailing and fishing.
Historically a Victorian resort, the town expanded with the arrival of the railway in the 19th century and later became famous for Hornsea Pottery, which shaped the local economy in the mid-20th century; today tourism, retirement living and local services dominate. A small museum, independent shops, cafes and regular community activities keep a strong local character while the surrounding coast and countryside draw day visitors and wildlife enthusiasts.
