Withernsea is a small coastal town and civil parish on the North Sea coast in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, sitting on the low-lying Holderness coast a short drive east of Hull. It grew as a Victorian seaside resort and still shows that character in its promenade, sandy beach and the distinctive Withernsea Lighthouse, which acts as a local landmark and visitor attraction.
Today the local economy leans on seasonal tourism, holiday accommodation and the surrounding agricultural countryside, while the community retains a quieter, down-to-earth feel with cafés, small shops and local events. The coastline here is notable for its changing cliffs and coastal-management challenges, which frame both the town’s history and its future concerns.
