Streat is a very small, rural civil parish in the district of Lewes in East Sussex, England, set on the lower slopes of the South Downs. The area is characterised by chalk downland, pasture and remnants of ancient field systems rather than a recognisable village centre, with a scattering of farms and cottages gathered around a small medieval church and historic earthworks that testify to its long agricultural past.
Nowadays Streat remains quiet and predominantly agricultural, with smallholdings, equestrian activity and a number of residents who commute into Lewes or Brighton. Its unspoilt landscape and proximity to the South Downs National Park make it attractive to walkers and those seeking rural tranquillity, and local conservation efforts help preserve the historic character of the parish.
