Silver End and Cressing sit in the district of Braintree, Essex, and combine a rural setting with some notable built heritage. Silver End began as an interwar model village created by the Crittall company in the late 1920s to house factory workers, its terraces and Art Deco touches still giving the place a distinctive, planned appearance and a strong local identity.
Cressing is surrounded by farmland and is best known for the medieval Cressing Temple Barns, a rare survival of 13th-century agricultural buildings that draw visitors and underline the area’s long history. Together the two settlements mix agricultural and commuter lifestyles, with village halls, clubs and local shops contributing to a close-knit community while remaining within easy reach of larger Essex towns.
