Sturmer is a small village and civil parish in the district of Braintree, tucked into the gentle Stour valley on the border between Essex and Suffolk in England. It sits close to the River Stour and the landscape is pleasantly rural, with remnant hedgerows, farmland and lanes; the village retains a historic core centred on the medieval parish church and a number of timber‑framed houses reflecting traditional East Anglian architecture.
Historically the community was agricultural and the imprint of the old Stour Valley railway - the local station closed in the 1960s - can still be felt in the village’s pattern. Today Sturmer has a quiet, village character with small local businesses and many residents who commute to nearby centres such as Haverhill or Braintree, while visitors are drawn by rural walks, birdwatching along the river and the sense of continuity in a long‑standing Essex parish.
