Langenhoe is a small rural village and civil parish a few miles from Colchester in Essex, with a quiet, agricultural feel defined by scattered farms and a compact residential core. The setting is typical of north‑Essex countryside, close enough to the town for daily commuting but still retaining a largely village atmosphere.
Historically the name is of Old English origin and the settlement is recorded from medieval times; its old parish church of St Mary is notable for the damage it suffered from subsidence and seismic activity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which led to the loss of much of the original building. Today the community is small and locally focused, with farming still important to the local economy and many residents travelling into Colchester for work and services.
