Heybridge is a village and civil parish on the edge of Maldon in Essex, lying just inland from the Blackwater Estuary. The attractive waterside focus is Heybridge Basin, where the River Chelmer and the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation meet the estuary; that mix of marina, locks and salt marshes makes it a popular spot for boating, birdwatching and coastal walks.
Historically the navigation and local maritime trade shaped the economy, and today the area combines traditional village amenities, pubs and community groups with a sizeable commuting population who work in Chelmsford and London. Tourism linked to boating, angling and nearby events in Maldon - notably the famous Mud Race - also contributes to the local character and economy.
