Parkeston is a small port village in the district of Tendring, Essex, England, set just inland from Harwich. It grew up around the Victorian-era quay - originally Parkeston Quay, now known as Harwich International - and the railway link that brought ferry passengers and freight across the North Sea, so the settlement still carries a strong maritime and transport identity.
The surrounding landscape is low-lying coastal marsh and estuary, with views across the Stour and Orwell estuaries and good birdwatching; economically the port and a modest industrial estate dominate, while terraced housing and community facilities reflect its history as a working port village. The area has a quiet, slightly industrial character with a noticeable maritime heritage and occasional ferry or cruise activity reminding you of its cross-Channel links.
