Thorpe-le-Soken is a village and civil parish in the Tendring district of Essex, England, situated a few miles inland from the North Sea coast and close to seaside towns such as Clacton-on-Sea and Frinton-on-Sea. It has its own railway station with regular services to Colchester and London Liverpool Street, which makes it a popular spot for commuters as well as for people seeking a quieter base near the coast.
The “le Soken” part of the name recalls a medieval soken, a special jurisdiction, and the village still shows a historic core around the parish church with period cottages and agricultural land nearby. The local economy is a mix of farming, small businesses and commuting, while community life revolves around the village hall, primary school, a couple of pubs and seasonal events, with easy access to coastal leisure close by.
