Great Holland is a small, largely rural village in the district of Tendring, in Essex, England. It sits on the low-lying coastal plain of east Essex, surrounded by farmland and hedgerow-lined lanes, with easy access to nearby beaches and the quieter stretches of coastline that characterise this part of the county.
Historically agricultural, the village today combines traditional cottages and a parish-centred community with a modest local economy of smallholdings, holiday lets and commuters who travel to larger towns. There’s a strong local social life for a place of its size - seasonal fêtes, village hall activities and a sense of continuity around historic buildings give it a quietly attractive, community-focused character.
