Low Fell is a largely residential ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, in Tyne and Wear, England. It sits just south of Gateshead town centre and within easy commuting distance of Newcastle upon Tyne, and has a village‑like feel with tree‑lined streets, a mix of Victorian and Edwardian houses and a compact high street of independent shops, cafés and pubs.
Historically developed as a suburban middle‑class enclave in the 19th century, Low Fell retains active community institutions such as local schools, churches and voluntary groups, and benefits from nearby green spaces and views across the River Tyne valley. The local economy is mainly residential with small businesses on the high street; many residents commute into Gateshead or Newcastle upon Tyne for work while neighbourhood associations and events keep a strong social life.
