High Fell is an electoral ward in the Metropolitan Borough of Gateshead, in Tyne and Wear, sitting a short drive from Gateshead town centre and Newcastle. It is mainly residential, with a mix of post‑war council housing, terraces and small local shopping parades, plus pockets of green space that give it a suburban feel within the wider Tyneside conurbation.
Like much of the area, High Fell was shaped by the North East’s industrial past and has seen post‑industrial change and regeneration efforts in recent decades. Socially and economically it contains a range of incomes and faces some deprivation in parts, but benefits from active community groups, local schools and decent transport links to employment and cultural centres along the River Tyne corridor.
