Pelaw and Heworth is a suburban ward in the east of the borough of Gateshead, in England, sitting on the south bank of the River Tyne and a short commute from Newcastle upon Tyne. It mixes older terraces and semi‑detached housing with pockets of newer development and benefits from good transport links, including the Tyne and Wear Metro and nearby arterial roads, making it a convenient part of the wider Tyneside conurbation.
The area has historic roots in coal mining and heavy industry but today feels largely residential and community‑focused, with local shops, schools, parks and active community groups. Recent regeneration and smaller commercial activity have refreshed parts of the ward while retaining the village atmosphere of Heworth and Pelaw, so it often appeals to families and commuters working across Tyne and Wear.
