Follingsby is a small, largely industrial and residential area on the western edge of Gateshead in Tyne and Wear, lying close to the Team Valley trading estate and the A1 corridor. It comprises pockets of housing alongside business parks and light industrial units, so the landscape feels functional rather than purely suburban.
Historically the land was rural and, like much of the region, was shaped by the north-east’s industrial expansion and its roots in County Durham; today residents tend to rely on nearby centres such as the Metrocentre and Newcastle for shopping and leisure. Good road links make it practical for commuting, and local green spaces and community groups give it a quieter, everyday character despite the surrounding commercial activity.
