Kingsclere is a village and civil parish in the Basingstoke and Deane district of Hampshire, England, lying roughly six miles west of Basingstoke and eight miles east of Newbury on the edge of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Its rolling farmland, commons and small woodlands give it a distinctly rural feel; agriculture and equestrian pursuits remain important locally while many residents commute to nearby towns, with the A339 the main road link and railheads at the larger towns.
Historically the village grew up around a royal manor - the name essentially means “king’s clearing” - and you can still find a medieval parish church in St Mary's Church and landscape traces of the old park. The parish includes the country estate Sydmonton Court, noted for its private arts festival, and the village sustains a lively community life with pubs, a primary school, annual shows and a range of clubs and societies.
