Steep is a small village and civil parish in East Hampshire, Hampshire, England, lying just east of the market town of Petersfield at the foot of the South Downs and close to Butser Hill. The landscape is classic chalk downland with lanes, flint-and-brick cottages and attractive hedgerows, making it popular with walkers and countryside visitors following the South Downs Way.
The village has a strong historic feel centred on its parish church of St Laurence and a collection of 18th- and 19th-century buildings. The local economy remains largely agricultural and residential, with many residents commuting from Petersfield by rail towards Portsmouth and London, and an active community life around the village hall and seasonal events.
