Map of the UK

The district of Hart sits in north‑east Hampshire, a mixture of small towns and rural parishes roughly between Reading and Basingstoke. It has good road and rail connections - the M3 and local services make it a popular commuter area for London and the surrounding employment centres.

Geographically it takes its name from the small River Hart and contains notable green spaces such as Fleet Pond nature reserve and stretches of the Basingstoke Canal. Historic touches include the remains of Odiham Castle and a number of attractive villages and conservation areas with timbered houses and coaching inns.

Economically Hart is generally prosperous, with a high proportion of professional households, strong schools and local business parks serving the wider Thames Valley economy. Socially it feels like an affluent commuter belt with active parish communities, farmers’ markets and local events in towns such as Fleet, Yateley, Hook and Odiham, and it often ranks highly in quality‑of‑life surveys.
