Fleet is the central ward of the small market town in Hart, Hampshire, centred on the high street, station and civic amenities. It serves a largely commuter population with fast rail links into London and easy access to the M3, while retaining a compact town-centre feel of shops, cafés and the community arts hub at the Harlington Centre.
Immediately to the north lies Fleet Pond, one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in the county and a valuable nature reserve, which gives the area an unexpectedly green, recreational character. The ward reflects Fleet’s Victorian expansion after the coming of the railway and today combines a relatively affluent, family-oriented community with a local economy built on retail, services and links to nearby commercial centres such as Farnborough.
