Walmer is a coastal ward on the southeastern edge of Dover district in Kent, England, facing the English Channel and sitting just along from Deal. The area has a seaside character with a mix of Victorian and Georgian houses, a shingle beach and promenade, and pockets of conservation status that preserve its historic streets and sea‑front green spaces.
Historically it is best known for Walmer Castle, one of the Henry VIII artillery forts that later became the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and has associations with figures such as the Duke of Wellington. Today the local economy leans on tourism and small businesses, with a settled community of families and retirees and visible reminders of its coastal defence past in nearby Martello towers and forts.
