Dymchurch is a low-lying seaside village on the south coast of Kent, in the district of Folkestone and Hythe, England. It sits on the edge of Romney Marsh and is backed by a long sea wall and shingle beach, with nearby coastal landmarks such as Dungeness; the village still shows Napoleonic defences, including Martello towers, and has a long history of coastal defence and smuggling folklore.
Today Dymchurch is a traditional family holiday resort with a promenade, amusements and the famous 15-inch gauge Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway; the local economy blends tourism with marshland agriculture (notably sheep grazing) and a close-knit community of year-round residents and holiday homeowners, while nearby nature reserves on the marsh and shingle attract birdwatchers and naturalists.
