Saltwood is a small village set on the lower slopes of the North Downs above Hythe, inside the district of Folkestone and Hythe in Kent, England. Its elevated position gives long views across Romney Marsh to the English Channel and it sits close to the North Downs Way, so countryside walking and coastal scenery are part of its appeal.
The village is best known for Saltwood Castle, an ancient manor with strong medieval associations and a long, sometimes colourful history that local tradition links to the events around Thomas Becket. Today Saltwood is largely residential with a quiet village community, a historic parish church and an economy shaped by nearby towns such as Folkestone, Canterbury and Ashford, plus agriculture and a modest amount of visitor interest.
