St. Nicholas at Wade is a small village on the north‑west edge of the Isle of Thanet in Kent, a short drive from Sandwich and Canterbury. It sits between arable farmland and the low‑lying marshes that once formed the Wantsum Channel, with easy access to coastal nature reserves such as Pegwell Bay and popular walking and birdwatching spots.
Named for a former wading or ferry crossing, the settlement grew up around a church dedicated to St Nicholas and retains strong agricultural and maritime roots. Today the local economy mixes farming with commuter households, small businesses and a modest tourism trade; community life centres on the village hall, church and pub, and the area has a quiet rural character with plenty of local interest in its changing coastline and coastal folklore.
