Westgate-on-Sea is an administrative ward on the north coast of Kent, sitting between Margate and Birchington in the district of Thanet, England. It grew up as a late-Victorian seaside development and still shows that heritage in its bandstand, tree-lined promenade and a ribbon of Victorian and Edwardian villas; parts of the seafront and residential streets fall within local conservation areas.
Today the ward combines a quieter, largely residential community with a seasonal seaside economy of small shops, cafes and holiday lets, and many residents commute to larger towns or to London by rail. Social life tends to centre on the seafront and local halls, with summer events and the appeal of accessible beaches and cliff-top gardens drawing visitors while long-term residents value the town’s village-like feel.
