Heckmondwike is an electoral ward and town in the Spen Valley of the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, England, lying between Dewsbury and Cleckheaton. It grew up in the 19th century as part of the West Yorkshire textile trade, and the legacy of mills, Victorian terraces and former industrial premises is still visible alongside more recent housing and light industry.
The area combines a busy high street and local shops with residential suburbs and a diverse community, and benefits from good road links into Leeds and Bradford via the M62 corridor. Local life mixes market‑town traditions, community groups and periodic regeneration efforts, with a handful of listed churches and civic buildings that reflect its industrial and civic past within Kirklees.
