Gomersal and Birkenshaw are neighbouring villages in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, sitting on the rolling fringes of the Pennines and a short drive from Bradford and Leeds. Both places show their 19th‑century textile and milling past in stone terraces and Victorian civic buildings, with pockets of newer housing woven into the older street pattern.
Today they combine a commuter‑friendly location, with the M62 corridor and regional rail within easy reach, with active local communities - villages pubs, churches, small shops and green spaces - so they retain a distinctly village feel despite being close to larger urban centres. Conservation areas and community events help preserve local character while small businesses and light industry contribute to the local economy.
