Holmfirth is a small market town in the Holme Valley within Kirklees, England, tucked into the southern edge of the Pennines. Its steep, stone-built streets and former textile mills speak to an industrial past, and the town is still marked by the tragic 1852 failure of Bilberry Reservoir, which flooded the valley and remains a significant episode in local history.
Today Holmfirth combines a quiet service economy with a buoyant visitor scene: it became nationally familiar as the setting for the long-running sitcom Last of the Summer Wine, and that, together with folk and arts festivals, independent shops and a small museum, draws tourists and walkers. Proximity to moorland, reservoirs and routes into the Peak District makes it popular with outdoor enthusiasts, while many residents commute to nearby Huddersfield and beyond.
