Upperthong is a small village in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England, sitting on the hillside above Holmfirth in the Holme Valley. Its elevated spot on the edge of the Pennines gives extensive views across the valley and makes it popular with walkers, while the surrounding landscape still shows the pattern of small farms and stone-built cottages typical of the area.
The village retains a strong local community with a village hall and primary school and owes much of its character to the Holme Valley’s former woollen and textile economy, even as many residents now commute to nearby Huddersfield or work in services and tourism. Close links to Holmfirth – famous for its TV associations and visitor trade – mean Upperthong combines rural calm with easy access to local amenities and outdoor recreation.
