Meltham is a village in Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England, set in the steep-sided Holme Valley about a few miles south-west of Huddersfield. It sits on the lower slopes of the Pennines, surrounded by moorland and reservoirs, which makes it popular for countryside walks and gives the town a distinctly rural-feeling setting despite its strong local community.
The village grew in the 19th century around the woollen mills – notably Meltham Mills – and much of its character comes from stone-built terraces and former industrial buildings; a branch railway once served the town. Today Meltham combines commuter links to nearby towns with a lively local centre of independent shops, pubs and community groups, alongside landmarks such as St Bartholomew's Church and easy access to outdoor recreation in the surrounding hills.
