Netherton is a small residential village in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees, in West Yorkshire, lying close to the fringe of the Pennines and within easy reach of Huddersfield. Its setting gives a mix of semi-rural character and commuter convenience, with local lanes and moorland nearby that are popular with walkers and offer good countryside views.
Like many settlements in the area, Netherton has historic ties to the wool and textile trades and still shows that industrial past in stone-built terraces and former mill buildings, though it is now largely residential. The village retains a local sense of community with small shops, a primary school and clubs and pubs that act as social hubs, while most people commute to larger towns for work.
