Hornby is a small historic village in the Lune Valley, a few miles east of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. Sited on the banks of the River Lune, the settlement is visually dominated by Hornby Castle - a partly medieval country house with castellations - and retains a compact core of stone cottages, a medieval bridge and a notable parish church.
The local economy is largely rural, centred on farming, small local businesses and a steady trickle of visitors who come for walking, canoeing on the river and the castle gardens; many residents also commute to Lancaster. Despite modern pressures it keeps a strong village feel with community events, a primary school and a couple of traditional pubs that act as social hubs.
