The village and civil parish of Drighlington sits within the metropolitan borough of the City of Leeds in West Yorkshire, positioned on the fringe of the urban area between Leeds and Bradford and close to neighbouring districts such as Kirklees. It has a compact, mainly stone-built centre surrounded by suburban housing and patches of farmland and green belt that give a semi-rural feel.
Historically a farming community with medieval roots, Drighlington grew steadily through the 19th and 20th centuries and today mixes local shops, pubs and small firms with many residents commuting to nearby centres for work. Community life is active, centred on local clubs, parish facilities and heritage groups, and the village retains a conservation character with several older buildings that reflect its local history.
