Wetherby is a market town and civil parish in the metropolitan borough of Leeds in West Yorkshire, sitting on the north bank of the River Wharfe. It grew as a coaching stop on the old Great North Road and retains a handsome stone bridge and a mix of Georgian and Victorian buildings that give the centre a distinctly historic, riverside character.
The town is known for Wetherby Racecourse on the outskirts and a lively high street of independent shops, cafés and weekly markets; it also functions as a commuter hub for Leeds, Harrogate and York thanks to good road links. Community life combines long-established local traditions with events such as arts and community festivals, while riverside parks and walks are popular social and recreational draws.
