Anstey is a large village and civil parish in the borough of Charnwood, Leicestershire, lying roughly four miles north of Leicester. It occupies slightly rising ground on the edge of the city’s suburbs and the Leicestershire countryside, combining older stone and Victorian terraces with post‑war and modern housing, and offering pleasant views over the surrounding landscape.
Historically the village dates back to medieval times and expanded markedly in the 18th and 19th centuries as a centre for framework knitting and the hosiery trade, traces of which remain in former workshops and narrow streets. Today it retains a strong local identity with shops, pubs, sports clubs and community organisations, while many residents commute into Leicester or the wider region for work.
