The village of Stanton under Bardon sits at the foot of Bardon Hill in the borough of Hinckley and Bosworth, Leicestershire, England. The hill, the county’s highest point and part of Charnwood Forest, gives the area dramatic granite outcrops, good walking country and distinct geology that draws both ramblers and geology enthusiasts.
Economically the village has long been shaped by the large Bardon Quarry, whose granite and aggregate workings drove 19th- and 20th-century growth and still dominate the landscape; many residents now commute to nearby towns such as Coalville or Leicester. Despite the industrial imprint, the settlement retains a rural village character with stone cottages, a small community life and a history reflected in its name - essentially a “stone” settlement beneath the hill.
