Measham South covers the southern part of the large village of Measham in North West Leicestershire, close to the Derbyshire border. The ward sits near the line of the Ashby Canal and the edge of the National Forest, so its character mixes bits of former industrial landscape with green corridors and pockets of open countryside.
The area has a strong industrial heritage, historically shaped by coal mining and local clay and pottery trades, and that legacy is still visible in building styles and place names. Today it reads as a working village community with local shops, pubs and clubs, active canal-side conservation efforts and reasonably good road links to places such as Burton-on-Trent, Coalville and Leicester, making it part traditional village, part commuter catchment.
