Moira is a small former colliery village in the district of North West Leicestershire, Leicestershire, close to the border with Derbyshire and near Ashby-de-la-Zouch. It sits within the planted landscape of the National Forest and is crossed by the historic Ashby Canal, giving it a mix of reclaimed industrial land, waterways and woodland walks.
Historically the village grew around 19th-century mining and ironworking - the preserved Moira Furnace is a reminder of that industrial past - and today it combines a quiet residential community with leisure attractions such as the Conkers discovery centre and local nature reserves around Moira Junction. The local economy is largely residential and service-led, with tourism and outdoor recreation linked to the National Forest helping to reshape its identity.
