Woodville is a large village in the district of South Derbyshire, in Derbyshire, England, lying close to the Staffordshire border between Swadlincote and Burton upon Trent and within easy reach of Derby. Its position on the edge of the old industrial heartland means it feels more semi‑urban than rural, with good road links and a mix of older terraces and later housing developments.
The village grew up around coal mining and clay‑based industries, and reminders of that industrial past survive in the local street pattern and former railway routes; more recently it has become a commuter and residential community while also benefiting from nearby environmental regeneration as part of the National Forest. Local life is centred on shops, pubs, schools and community groups, giving it a small‑town social feel despite close ties to the surrounding towns and industries.
