Tydd Gote is a small settlement in the district of South Holland in Lincolnshire, sitting in the heart of The Fens close to the county boundary with Cambridgeshire. It lies beside the low-lying network of drains and dykes that characterise the fenland landscape and is near the neighbouring Tydd villages, with market towns such as Long Sutton and Wisbech within easy reach.
The name "Gote" reflects the village's historic role in water management - a gote is a sluice or channel - and the settlement grew around the work of draining and reclaiming fenland. Today the local economy is dominated by arable and vegetable farming, and community life is that of a small rural hamlet with close ties to nearby villages; the flat, open landscape also attracts birdwatchers and walkers interested in the distinctive fen scenery and history.
