Hoo St. Werburgh sits on the Hoo Peninsula in the unitary authority of Medway, Kent, set between the estuaries of the River Thames and the River Medway. The village is surrounded by low-lying marshes and arable farmland that form part of the North Kent Marshes, giving wide open views, notable birdlife and a strong sense of countryside despite its proximity to bigger towns; the medieval parish church dedicated to St Werburgh remains a local landmark.
Historically agricultural, the wider peninsula has also hosted industry and coastal defences, but the village itself keeps a predominantly rural, residential feel with local pubs, a village hall and community events. It is within commuting distance of the main Medway towns and London, so many residents combine village life with employment elsewhere while maintaining an active local social scene.
