Cooling is a small, mostly rural parish on the Hoo Peninsula within the unitary authority of Medway in England. It sits beside the salt marshes of the Thames Estuary and the River Thames, giving wide, windswept views and making it a quiet spot popular with walkers and birdwatchers as much as with farmers.
The parish is best known for the atmospheric ruins of Cooling Castle and a historic village church, St James' Church, which reflect its medieval past. Today the community is small and largely agricultural, with a touch of heritage tourism; the adjacent marshes and nearby industrial and port developments on the estuary also shape the local landscape and economy.
